For the most part I didn’t find the big things like Home Owners insurance or Auto insurance any great savings with AARP; in fact, it was more than I currently pay. However, they do have some other perks which I have taken advantage.
One is certain hotels like Best Western, Choice Hotels, Hyatt Hotels, LaQuinta and Hampton Hotels. With the rising cost of hotel rooms even the 10% discount is a help, especially if you are spending more than one night. A recent one added is the MGM Resorts International which includes several of their Las Vegas hotels like Circus Circus and Luxor and MGM Grand and more.
Some cruise lines even offer an AARP discount now including Norwegian Cruise Lines and Variety Cruises. Personally I’m a Carnival Cruise Line fan so I wish they would get onboard also.
Most of the well known Car Rental places offer a savings up to 25% with the AARP card. This can be a huge savings. Some of them included are Alamo, Avis, Budget, Enterprise and Hertz.
Some of the lesser known discounts can be found online for AARP members only for Kellogg’s, Grocery Coupon Center, Everyday Savings Center and AARPdiscounts.com Consumer Cellular offers a $10.00 per month plan with no contract or early bird termination fees. Budget Truck Rental offers up to a 20% savings on local or one way rentals.
One I really like comes from Regal Entertainment where members pay $5.50, a 49% discount, for a bundled purchase of a 32 oz soft drink and 64 oz popcorn when they show their AARP membership card. If you are like me and it’s not a movie without the popcorn and pop, then you’ll certainly take advantage of this.
At Michaels Stores on Tuesdays AARP members will receive a discount. As well at all Landry’s Restaurants when you show your AARP card you will receive a 10% discount. Tanger Outlets will give you a coupon book with up to 20% discount offers when you show your AARP card. Teleflora gives you a 20% discount also.
There are also a lot more savings that are included in a book that you receive when you sign up for AARP. Really, if you actually take advantage of any of the offers, it more than pays for the low annual membership fee.
I’m all about savings. Whether is a buck or more, I’m on it. In today’s economy you have to look for the best prices and AARP membership can help with that.
